Fuel delivery systems come in two types: carburetor or fuel injection. Fuel injection uses one or more nozzles—called injectors—to deliver a carefully measured amount of fuel to the engine. This is a very precise method of delivering fuel.
Virtually all of today’s gasoline-powered fuel-injected cars use computer controls to measure fuel delivery. This provides better fuel economy, quicker response, lower emissions, and better performance than a carburetor could.
Most people don’t think a lot about fuel system or fuel injection maintenance. But there are a few maintenance items that will help keep your car’s fuel system in better condition—to improve gas mileage and dependability while reducing emission levels. Those items fall into two main categories: filter replacement and system cleaning.
Most cars have three filters for the fuel and induction system; air filter, fuel filter, EVAP filter. These filters have to be serviced regularly to maintain proper engine operation.
The fuel and induction system cleaning service involves running a cleaner through the fuel system, throttle body, and intake manifold. This cleaner removes carbon and deposits from the injectors, throttle, and intake, and even works its way down into the combustion chamber and catalytic converter in some cases. This service provides real benefits for fuel economy, engine performance, and lower emissions.
How often should you have your car’s fuel system serviced? Most experts agree that—provided you aren’t experiencing a problem—you should have your car’s fuel injection system cleaned yearly to keep it running right.
If it’s time for your vehicle’s fuel injection maintenance, make an appointment now and we’ll have you back to driving safely and at top performance in no time.
