The word combustion means “to burn.” Internal combustion engines create power by burning a mixture of air and fuel in the combustion chamber. This, by definition, creates heat. And when combined with the friction that takes place inside the engine, that heat can quickly become high enough to melt engine components.
To prevent that, all internal combustion engines use some type of cooling system. Most use a liquid—called coolant—to carry the heat away from the engine and release it to the atmosphere. It’s important to have your vehicle’s cooling system serviced regularly to avoid the risk of overheating your engine or running the risk that it won’t start in frigid weather due to frozen engine fluids.
A certified technician can check all the components of your system—including the radiator, fans, water pump, thermostat, bypass system, head gaskets, and intake manifold gaskets, heater core, and hoses—and provide any needed cooling system repair.
