CV Joint Replacement

A CV joint (constant-velocity joint) is a critical part of your car’s drivetrain. The CV joints not only transfer the torque from the transmission to the drive wheels at a constant speed, they also allow for the up-and-down motion of the suspension. A CV joint is packed with a special, heavy-duty grease that provides anti-wear protection and water washout resistance. The joint is then sealed tightly with a rubber or plastic boot that is held in firmly place with clamps.

The most common problem with the CV joints is when the protective boot cracks or gets damaged. This allows water and debris in which can, in turn, wash out the protective grease. Once the grease is diminished, the CV joint will wear faster due to lack of lubrication and infiltrating corrosion. If the damage goes on for too long, you will need a CV joint replacement. That’s why regular inspection is critical.

A certified technician can detect signs of a damage such as tears, cracks, or grease spots on the wheel rim and can determine if you need a CV join replacement or if a repair of the boot and seal will get you safely on your way.
