CV Axle Replacement

A CV axle (constant-velocity axle) is a critical part of your car’s drivetrain. It is constantly rotating and bending to cushion the feel of the road as it helps drive your car forward by transferring power from your transmission to your wheels. The CV axle consists of a short shaft with an inner and outer CV joint. If your CV axle breaks, it can spin unhindered and can cause damage—possibly enough that your car will be disabled and will need to be towed.

It’s important to have a skilled, well-trained technician repair or replace the CV axle on your vehicle. A CV axle replacement consists of removing the axle nut and the wheel and brake assembly, including the brake caliper. Once the strut tower and hub have been unbolted, the technician can get at the CV axle. Then, the old CV boots and axle are removed and the new one can be inserted—replacing any additional parts that may have worn and could compromise the safety of your vehicle.
