Brake Rotor Replacement

Approx. Time: 60 Minutes | Price Range: Get Quote for Price

Your mechanic says you need a brake rotor replacement. You know you need your brakes to stop the car so of course you have to have the work done, but what is a brake rotor anyway? And what does it have to do with stopping your car?

Brakes work by taking advantage of the properties of friction to slow the wheels. A smooth metal object mounts to the wheels and rotates with them; a softer object mounts to the car’s suspension. When you apply the brakes, the soft object presses against the harder one, dragging against it to slow the wheels. The brake rotor (also called a disk) is the hard part your vehicle’s softer brake pads tighten around to stop the wheel from moving.

With all that friction, a brake rotor replacement is not unusual. The rotor simply wears away over time and needs to be replaced to maintain your safety. Your certified technician is skilled in maintaining and servicing your entire brake system and that includes providing a brake rotor replacement when needed.
